It’s really important to make sure we are taking care of ourselves, and living up to the examples that we want ourselves to be, because in the end, that is for them too. They’re going to be able to see that. And that’s going to be what they base their ideas off of, of what they can do, and what kind of people they want to surround themselves with.
Back in June I had the pleasure of talking with Jen Myers, founder of the High Visibility Project, Code and Cupcakes, and the Columbus chapter of Girl Develop It. Jen has an eight-year-old daughter, and at the time of our conversation was teaching at Dev Bootcamp in Chicago; she has since struck out on her own as an independent consultant.
We talked about being a single parent since her child’s birth, getting started as a speaker and juggling travel, her thoughts on how to be an ally for women and other underrepresented groups in tech, and her dreams around Github sub-accounts for children.

Jen is so inspiring! Such a badass and so down to earth at the same time — love that she’s also a mother and a single parent. Thanks for this interview, Kathryn!
